Fantastic win today which pulls us back to within 5pts of Leek, albeit without Leek playing.
Tough conditions today, and i'll be honest that at half time i didn't see us, or either side, scoring. The first half was dire, but we did well to get to half time goalless as the wind was behind them 1st half. Danny Haystead had to be alert from a couple of long range efforts, so plaudits to him for that. Fewer plaudits for his goal kicks, which (wind assisted) mostly ended up in Northern Ryhall.
In the 2nd half, the weather improved a bit and that meant our superiority was able to shine through. It did need a moment of class though to break the deadlock, with Tom Siddons picking up the ball just inside the area and rifling a right footed shot into the right hand corner of the net.
We definitely needed a 2nd though to feel comfortable, and Rob Morgan provided that with a sublime goal. Having been put through 1 on 1, he rounded the keeper, and could have gone down with the keeper flying out off his line and diving at his feet. He stayed on his feet though, and having been pushed wide, stopped, looked up and curled in a perfect shot from an angle of about 4 degrees. 'Acutest of angles' is the well used cliche, and James Bedford coined it perfectly.
Jordan Cooke then rounded off the win by slamming in from 1 yard out following a cross / shot from the left (not sure by whom).
3 more points, and hopefully a bit more pressure on Leek. They will have now a midweek game v Cleethorpes (at home), so probably the postponement today didn't do us a favour. Hopefully they have a bit of a fixture pile up.
We just need to be within 3 points of them on April 25th. Keep the faith and up the Reds.
