News on a couple of Billy's players.
Nick Ashby has been appointed as assistant manager at Evo Stik Southern League club Bedworth United.
David Staff, my choice as the Daniels' best player of the noughties, has signed for his home town club Harborough Town in Division One of the UCL. It seems like only yesterday I was selling him to Kings Lynn in the lounge bar of the Essendine Hotel! He then went on to play in the Football League for Boston United and find fame as a Gladiators champion!

I'd seen Nick had gone to Bedworth earlier in the week. I'm actually surprised that he's still an assistant as he has all the pedigree to be a good manager in his own right but maybe he was put off by his previous experiences at Raunds and Wellingborough (I think it was).
As for Staffy, how old is he now? Surely no more than 30 and as such he should be more than capable of performing at our level if he actually wanted to.

Nick did OK at Raunds on a low budget and I think was at Wellingborough when the money ran out after a top three finish in his first season. I think he would only be interested in a managerial job at step 4 or above or an ambitious UCL club with reasonablw resources. There aren't that many ambitious UCL clubs and there were very few jobs up for grabs in that league this season.
Staffy is 31 and was playing at Banbury last season, so yes I would agree with you on that Clipper..

Staffy is 31 and was playing at Banbury last season, so yes I would agree with you on that Clipper.. Do you think he could "do a job" for us? If he's even 75% as effective as he was previously then I can't see that there's anyone in our currrent squad playing in any of the positions he could occupy who is better than that. Surely he can do better than Harborough Town if he was so inclined. As it was the Chairman's best friend in football who took him to Lynn maybe he could fulfil a similar function again and bring him "home"! As for Nick, I always thought that we'd see him in the boss seat at Stamford at some point - maybe we still will.

Perhaps Staffy just wants to play locally now. I'm not going to mention the 'chairman's best friend' or I might disappear into a black hole.
I always thought Nick might be a future Stamford manager. I did encourage him to apply when Billy left but he felt some loyalty to Raunds as they had given him an opportunity. I;m not sure if it was last time we had a vacancy or the time before now, but he was on holiday when the job came up and rang about it after we had filled it. Definitely in my view someone we could have worked with! Ken was a big Nick fan too which would have counted in his favour I'm sure.
