Was Saturday's clean sheet the first Gary Hately has kept at Wothorpe Road? I couldn't find any Stamford supporters on Saturday who could remember any others? Maybe one of the forum's "Stattos" can answer that one ;D

Clipper - very unfair
Gary Hatelely played 35 games keeping 11 clean sheets - seven of these were at home.
He conceded 51 goals but 15 were in just 3 games - 0-4 v Harlow, 5-6 v Dunstable, 0-5 v Boreham Wood
He was also booked twice - unusual for a keeper

Well, how the mind plays tricks when you get to my age and there was me thinking he hadn't ever kept one! Must have been all the shoddy goals we did give away that season - any ball across the 6 yard box seemed destined for a calamity if my memory serves me even slightly well. I agree he could be an excellent shot-stopper but that didn't make up for the number of clangers and howlers that would have denied us a play-off spot and ultimately promotion if we hadn't managed to get Ayden Duffy between the sticks at vital times. I should imagine the bookings were as a result of the near-suicidal dashes out of his area which again often resulted in "brown-trousers' time" in the defence! One thing's for certain, his PR (himself and/or his close friends and relatives) who used to come on the forum when he was here made him out to be some kind of goal-keeping god with a CV of "top clubs" as long as your arm. Surely a long CV for a goal keeper quite so young is something that would sound alarm bells in itself?! As for his "god-like" status, most of the supporters made their own minds up on that one, as have many non-league managers who he's played for. He certainly has legendary status at Hednesford ;D

Hahaha. I must admit that when I heard Hately was in goal for Shepshed, I was incredibly disappointed that we didn't manage to score. He did have quite a fan club... I remember a fair few supporters who wouldn't hear a bad word said against him whilst he played for us (and only turned on him after he left!) yet he is without doubt one of the poorest keepers I've ever seen signed for the Dannies. And 11 clean sheets is all very well, but I reckon most of those were due to a good defence rather than fantastic goalkeeping, yeah he was a good shot stopper but flapped far too much in the box! 15 goals in 3 games, enough said...

Three in a row and it'll probably be some kind of record
